Girl Power Grants is looking for teenage girls in grades 6-12 in Central Virginia who want to make a difference in their community. You, along with other young women just like you, will help identify and evaluate needs that impact youth in our community and help decide which community program to give or “grant” your money to. The decision is completely up to you and your fellow members.

You will meet periodically, in person or online, and of course, attending the award event “The Big Give,” where you will announce which local nonprofit will receive your grant money.

As a member of Girl Power Grants, you will need to show:

  • Respect for your peers and others, with a strong leadership potential

  • That you are eager and determined to help those in need.

  • Enthusiasm, participation, and consideration of other people’s ideas

  • A firm knowledge of your community resources, or a willingness to learn about them

  • Confident communications skills and the ability to work in a group

  • Prepare to think with your head AND your heart. You will learn things you never knew about yourself, each other, and your community!

Membership Fee

There is a GPG membership fee of $50 - $100, plus an annual dues of $15 to cover administrative costs and events.

Please pay what you can – while $100 per member is optimal, we understand that may not be possible for everyone. If making a $50 donation is not possible, please let us know and we can award you a scholarship through our matching grant program.

All of the members will pool their membership fees and add it to the grant award pool. The total pool of money will be awarded to a local nonprofit that you and the other GPG members decide upon. Our minimum goal is $5,000 that you and the other members can award to a local nonprofit organization!

We are all one team, with one mission to select a grant finalist that makes us all proud. SIGN UP HERE!

  • Since starting in 2015, GPG has awarded more than $62,000 in grants and every one of those decisions was made by smart, informed teenage girls. We believe there’s no easier, more efficient way to learn about serving our community than through GPG.

  • We hope you will! Most schools require a faculty club sponsor to form an official club. Once you secure one, we can offer you ideas and support for marketing and planning your club meetings. You can fully make it your own, and have your club members register with GPG, leaving the paperwork side of things to us!

If starting a club at your school does not appeal to you, you can also form a giving circle of friends at home. Together you can discuss nonprofits and vote on our grantees.

  • Yes. Girl Power Grants has been a nonprofit since 2015 shortly after teen girls in Midlothian, Va., cooked up this idea to give money together to help our community. Our EIN number is 47-3851756, and you can see our Guidestar profile online. EIN stands for Employer ID Number, but we don’t have any employees just teen volunteers and some parental and teacher advisors. HINT: Guidestar is a group that keeps track of nonprofits and their status, so before you give to any organization you can check them out online.
